Friday

It is another beautiful morning here in the NC mountains. It is almost 60 degrees and predictions are for it to be over 70 degrees this afternoon. Sharon, Teresa, and Herman arrived last night around 10 PM. Henry and Herman are out playing golf at the nine-hole golf course here in Franklin. We plan on going gem hunting this afternoon. Took some panorama photos out on the parkway.

Day 5 Blue Ridge

What a gorgeous morning it is here in the mountains. Our plans for the day are to visit a store to get a fireplace log- we are not into chopping wood- and to take a drive on the Parkway. Henry is cooking right now and also cussing. He is not a cook but he didn't ask me to do it for him. Oh, my ears are burning. He is such a drama king and of course it will be my fault somehow.
We spent a delightful hour in the hot tub last night enjoying the stars and a glass of wine. We will probably do that again this evening before Sharon, Herman and Teresa get here.
Ever onward!

Day 4 The Journey Continues...

The fog rolled in down the valley.
The dawn broke late as this mountain was covered in fog.
We ate breakfast and watched the local news.  I made brownies. The brownies are not the Weight Watcher kind but I think I can resist but the smell is wafting through the cabin. Hope to go to Waynesville or maybe Murphy today. We  are thinking about driving the Smoky Mountain drive up to Mt. Mitchell tomorrow.

Journey Day 3

This morning Henry played golf. He said it was great but hilly. He lost some yellow balls as they blended in with the color of the leaves.  I stayed at the cabin and did some sewing and crochet. It was truly a quiet morning.
After lunch we ventured back down the mountain into Franklin. I found another quilt shop when I searched online. So we drove there-it is a great shop for sewists and quilters.  It was as big as the one I visited yesterday. A quilter would be in quilt heaven. I bought some patterns to make some Christmas gifts and I could have bought more but I restrained myself.  We then hunted down a Wal-Mart. What vacation would be complete without a stop at a Wally World??? We also found a big Dollar Tree.
The trees are turning and are beautiful. I hope my photos do them justice. What do you think?
Going to downtown Waynesville mañana.

Mountain Trail Day 2

Drinking coffe on the front porch in the cool morning
Hole 4 at the golf course
It was a frosty morning. I could hear the water from the melting frost on the roof drip down the gutter. I  had a cup of coffee on the front porch. It was really cool. We left around 10 and headed for the quilt and yarn shops in downtown Franklin. We also had to find a grocery store as well as visit the local golf course. The quilt shop had lots of neat things and of course I bought a few of them. Henry checked out the golf course and he is going tomorrow to play 9 holes. He and Herman will probably play on Friday.
The ladybugs are swarming around. There are lots of them. I figured them for spring critters, not fall.
Also we drove around a mountain and went to Bryson City. It is a cute town. We didn’t get out, just killing time. This cabin is for sale which we did not know for sure until this morning when the owner called to say that a realtor was bringing someone by to take a look at it. Of course the realtor called a second time to sat another looker was coming around in about an hour. So we headed to Bryson City.

Our Mountain Retreat
Day 1
We left the sunny area of Charleston to stay a week in the mountains. Henry and I have not had a real vacation in a very long time. We arrived here at the cabin around 3:30. It is very much like the pictures we saw. It is really out in the sticks. Henry says if we need more sunshine it will have to be piped in. But we like it.  It has a very mountain cabin feel to it.
The leaves were beautiful on the way up here. It was coolish and now that the sun is going down we will have to shut the windows. It is getting chilly. Can't wait until we can have a cup of coffee tomorrow morning on the front porch. We can see mountains from the back deck and from the side windows. Looking forward to exploring Franklin tomorrow.
Leaves are just beginning to turn.

Mountain Journey 2011

Twas the week before Thanksgiving and we are traveling once again to our favorite spot in the North Carolina mountains, Montreat. This is the first year that all of us are officially retired. What a great day for camaraderie and travel! Many plans have been discussed and ideas bandied abut. Who knows what we will do?The South Carolina Home apartments have under gone a great transformation. There are new appliances, new cupboards, new wardrobes. The apartments are truly lovely. My only concern is the lighting. There is very little lighting to brighten our corner when we are creating magnificent crafts.
We visited Waynesville, North Carolina. It is a neat town about an hour or so from Black Mountain. We dearly love the shops along their main thoroughfare which were being decorated for the holiday season. We especially like the shop where delicious chocolates are housed. Yum.
One of us purchased an apple peeler corer machine which is supposed to make quick work of peeling the luscious fruit. But it took us quite a while to figure out that darn machine. (We have since decided that the use of any machinery will not be a part of our list of crafting activities.)
On our way home we stopped at the Moose Cafe which is at the Western North Carolina Farmers' Marker off of I-40. The breakfast was delicious. Their biscuits and apple butter are the best.
We traveled down the mountains to another delightful spot: The Dish Barn   The selection of dinnerware and other knickknacks is wonderful. This was another wondeful, relaxing trip. Looking forward to next year.
